Position Summary Foreman is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical transmission systems. The role may also require travel to another state depending on customer demands.
Essential Functions
Works safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de‑energized sections.
Coaches crew members.
Possesses leadership and management skills, and is capable of leading and training lower‑skilled employees in safe and productive work procedures.
Leads and teaches hot‑stick work on energized lines.
Conducts pre‑job or tailgate briefings.
Has a working knowledge of all aspects of line work: strings overhead wire, sets poles and anchors, installs transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
Troubleshoots and supervises troubleshooting on primary and secondary systems; replaces cut‑out fuses and clears faulted circuits.
Frequently works with energized high‑voltage systems, requiring skill and care to protect the lives of self and others.
Maintains company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order.
Can perform rigorous physical labor and identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
Is familiar with induced voltage, proper sagging of wire, phasing a circuit through a substation, and pulling and tensioning setups.
Understands grounding procedures, working at heights and confined spaces, and proper use of PPE and cover‑up.
Can operate equipment safely, phase out a line using phasing sticks, plan safe work based on a job print or work order, and obtain a one‑shot on a recloser.
Can safely perform a reconductoring job, install and remove mechanical jumpers, use a load‑bust tool, and take line clearances.
Traces line protection devices, flag and tag procedures, and works outside in inclement weather.
Does all related work as required to complete the job.
Minimum Requirements
5–10 years of experience.
Coordinates and inspects the work of crew members.
Can travel long distances on short notice when required.
Can work for extended periods in various locations when required.
Can lift in excess of 50 lbs.
Can properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
Complies with company reporting procedures and completes required paperwork.
Possesses a CDL and demonstrates safe driving.
Willing to work overtime when requested.
Will work outside of the normal work schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.
Physical Demands Regularly requires talking, hearing, standing, walking, using hands, and reaching with hands and arms, often in outdoor and high‑noise environments.
Work Environment Often exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. Noise levels may be loud, and work is performed in outdoor weather conditions.
