Job Summary Oversees all facilities operations at the Baruch Marine Field Laboratory, serving as the primary contact for maintenance, construction, and emergencies. Supervises staff, manages budgets and contractors, ensures safety compliance, and coordinates projects with campus partners and external organizations to support BMFL’s research and educational mission.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as primary point of contact for all facilities concerns at BMFL, including off‑hour emergencies.
Supervise and coordinate the facilities team of two tradesmen and one custodian; prioritize repairs, construction, and maintenance activities.
Ensure projects remain within budgetary constraints and compliance with workplace safety standards.
Monitor conditions and create/progress projects in coordination with BMFL Director, campus facilities office, maintenance staff, and independent contractors.
Oversee construction, groundskeeping, repairs, preventative maintenance, storm preparation, storm recovery, and insurance claims.
Co‑coordinate all external contractors, bid package creation, pre‑/post‑bid meetings, cost estimation, and execution.
Communicate and coordinate with BMFL staff, faculty, and associated entities on Hobcaw Barony and related organizations.
Support the overall success of the College of Arts and Sciences by performing additional duties as needed.
Education & Experience
Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 5+ years of related experience (may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience).
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree and 10 years experience OR high school diploma and 14 years experience in facilities management or a diversified building/maintenance activity (e.g., general contracting).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Document processing, spreadsheets and databases, HTML, CSS, PHP and content management systems.
Ability to tow and back a trailer.
Knowledge of marine culture systems, including plumbing, pumps, filtration, and lighting.
