Position District Park Maintenance Foreman
Location of Work Oahe Downstream Recreation Area – the lead worker for maintenance activities in a large park district that consists of the main park at Oahe Downstream RA and 10 secondary park locations north on the Oahe Reservoir. The area includes 294 campsites, camping cabins, lodge, comfort stations, boat ramps, fish cleaning stations, an Off-Highway Vehicle Area (OHV), an archery range, and a rifle range.
Key Responsibilities
Organize and schedule staff to perform daily & weekly work at all areas and facilities and maintain clear records of work completed.
Assist in maintaining park facilities during peak summer season with rotating weekend duties.
Schedule and organize work assignments for a Park Maintenance Technician and up to 12 seasonal employees and up to 15 park volunteers.
Operate equipment including loaders, commercial mowers, small tractors, skid steers, dump trucks, and aerial lifts for tree pruning.
Perform routine plumbing repairs, minor electrical repairs, janitorial cleaning, basic carpentry & welding repairs, and new construction.
Load & unload equipment transported throughout the district.
Order supplies & materials.
Train others on safe and proper operation of equipment and facility cleaning.
Maintain clear written records of work completed; assign tasks to others and prioritize work tasks and staff assignments.
Communicate effectively with park users & staff; diagnose and repair vehicles & equipment.
Required Knowledge & Skills
Equipment operation, repair & maintenance
General plumbing
Basic electrical trouble‑shooting
Janitorial cleaning
Basic carpentry, welding, concrete work
Landscaping, tree planting & grass seeding
Operation of aerial lift for tree pruning
Chainsaw, turf and rough mowers, string trimmers operation, repair and maintenance
Tree, shrub and grass identification
General facility & grounds maintenance and district operations
Licenses & Certifications
CDL would be highly beneficial.
SD Dept of DANR Pesticide & Noxious Weed Applicator – Candidate should possess or be able to obtain within 6 months of employment.
Additional requirements: Training for Dept of Corrections Inmate Supervision.
