Operations and Maintenance Technician 1 The San Jacinto River Authority is a public entity whose mission is to develop, conserve, and protect the water resources of the San Jacinto River basin. Its primary purpose is to implement long‑term, regional projects related to water supply and water quality. SJRA delivers raw water to both municipal and industrial consumers and provides water treatment and wastewater services through the ownership, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure including reservoirs, groundwater wells, surface water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, lift stations, and miles of open channel and conveyance systems.

Overview The Highlands Division delivers raw water from Lake Houston and the Trinity River through an extensive 27‑mile system of canals and a 1,400‑acre staging reservoir to provide raw water to several industrial, municipal, and agricultural customers pursuant to long‑term water supply contracts.

Base Pay Range $21.00/hr - $24.00/hr

Responsibilities

Operate heavy power equipment such as tractors, mechanized boom, backhoe, road grader, or bulldozer to maintain canals, levees, roadways, and other Authority property.

Operate Authority passenger vehicles and/or vehicle/trailer/equipment combinations less than gross vehicle weight of 26,001 lb. (unless CDL certified) on Authority property and public roadways, safely and in accordance with Authority policy and federal, state, and local laws.

Fasten attachments such as graders, plows, and rollers to tractor with hitch pins; operate tractor using attached equipment to complete various operational and maintenance tasks.

Conduct preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and/or control systems, rotating and stationary equipment, heavy civil works, buildings, structures, and other facilities.

Process maintenance activities and work orders using the Enterprise Asset Management System (EAM) and properly document, organize, and file correspondence, reports and records related to maintenance activities within the system.

Operate various types of welding equipment to replace and fabricate metals for various processes when needed.

Operate small equipment and tools such as mowers, ATV’s, vegetation sprayers, chainsaws, overhead cranes, mobile actuators, brush chippers, and jackhammers to maintain canals and levees.

Work collaboratively with crew to perform field maintenance and construction activities such as digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work with a backhoe, grader, or bulldozer.

Monitor canal and reservoir water levels visually and through the use of SCADA to ensure that pumping rates are adequate to meet system customer demands.

Apply herbicide control along the entire canal system to keep the weed growth under control.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of general work experience.

Mechanical aptitude; handy with tools and equipment.

Ability to wear the appropriate water safety equipment such as a life vest due to occasional exposure to flowing streams of water; the ability to swim is strongly preferred.

Valid Texas Driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
