JUVENILE PROBATION OFFICER – Community Service Restitution Program, Juvenile Services
Agency: Tarrant County Juvenile Services.
Job Overview As a Juvenile Probation Officer, you will evaluate police referrals of juveniles, conduct case interviews, prepare court reports, supervise probation cases, counsel juveniles and families, and ensure victim services are provided.
Responsibilities
Receive, review, and evaluate police referrals from law enforcement agencies involving juveniles.
Determine appropriate actions through the interview process and referral to the District Attorney’s Office for legal action.
Coordinate all procedures involved until the case is completed.
Prepare and submit court reports; attend court hearings and provide information to the court as required.
Provide court‑ordered and non‑court‑ordered supervision of cases under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court and Juvenile Services.
Establish and perform case‑work objectives through interviewing and counseling with clients, families, school officials, and service providers.
Develop and review case plans for assigned youth, including post‑supervision.
Access community agencies and coordinate treatment for clients, families, and victims.
Maintain and update chronological documentation of contacts and case work.
Coordinate actions with staff and outside authorities concerning case progression.
Transport clients, family members, and victims for court and community service appointments.
Intervene in aggressive or self‑injurious behaviors with crisis intervention, counseling, physical and mechanical restraint; possess annual self‑defense training.
Ensure victims are advised of their rights and develop victim restitution agreements.
Schedule supervision contacts and provide direct services to victims as needed.
Collect data and prepare statistical reports as required.
Provide behavioral support and counseling intervention within specialized programs.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree with 1,750 hours of full‑time casework, counseling, community or group work, or related experience in a social service, community, corrections, or juvenile agency dealing with offenders or disadvantaged persons.
OR Bachelor’s Degree with one year of full‑time graduate study toward a Master’s in criminology, corrections, counseling, law, social work, psychology, or a related field.
Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile liability insurance.
Ability to obtain and maintain current certification by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department as a Juvenile Probation Officer.
Participation in Non‑Violent Physical Restraint training, with annual training in verbal de‑escalation, self‑defense, and physical restraint components.
Skilled in counseling and interviewing; good working knowledge of community referral resources.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Experience providing direct service to youth and families with mental health history preferred.
