Overview
Outbreak Prevention and Response Coordinator, Bureau of Tuberculosis Control Division/Program Summary: The Bureau of Tuberculosis Control (BTBC) aims to prevent the spread of tuberculosis (TB) and eliminate TB as a public health problem in New York City. Goals include identifying individuals with suspected or confirmed TB disease and ensuring their proper treatment, ideally with directly observed therapy, and ensuring that individuals at high risk for progression from latent infection to active disease receive treatment to prevent disease.
Position Summary: The BTBC Office of Epidemiology reviews exposures in residential and non-residential congregate settings; conducts investigations to identify, notify and evaluate contacts; analyzes genomic and epidemiologic information to detect TB outbreaks; coordinates outbreak response activities; and conducts data analysis and research to inform TB prevention and control policy. The Outbreak Prevention and Response Coordinator will coordinate TB prevention and outbreak response activities across the bureau, the Health Department, other City agencies, the public, healthcare providers, and community organizations. Under general direction, with latitude for independent initiative, this role will develop and operationalize tailored public health interventions to interrupt transmission and contribute to TB detection and prevention activities in high-risk communities and emergent needs. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, skilled in high-level communication and coordination with diverse organizations, enjoy serving the public, and thrive in a team environment.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement coordinated, data-driven, culturally competent public health interventions to prevent and interrupt TB transmission, raise TB awareness, and address barriers to care in high-risk communities and during outbreaks.
Communicate and coordinate with leadership and management of healthcare facilities, community-based organizations, businesses, social service providers, City agencies, media outlets and others.
Coordinate onsite TB testing events and related follow-up, including care coordination and referrals to public and community healthcare providers.
Collaborate with diverse stakeholders to develop and disseminate tailored health information to healthcare providers and the public.
Develop and support additional public health interventions as needed to prevent and respond to ongoing transmission.
Maintain relationships with City agency colleagues, community-based organizations, social service providers, healthcare providers, media liaisons, elected officials, and other partners.
Work with BTBC epidemiology staff to evaluate public health interventions as indicated.
Other duties as required.
Preferred Skills
Experience communicating health information to patients, the public, health care providers, and other entities.
Experience working with clinicians and/or health care and social service providers.
Experience developing and disseminating health information to diverse populations.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Strong computer skills and knowledge of the health care delivery system.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Acrobat.

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or related activities; or
High school diploma or equivalent and six years of related experience; or
Education and/or experience equivalent to the above, with at least one year of relevant experience.
