The Operations & Facilities Management Department at WashU Medicine supports the medical campus with a comprehensive range of services, including maintenance and operations for 65 buildings totaling more than 11.1 million gross square feet of space. The team assists in delivering clinical care, advancing research, and facilitating educational endeavors. Responsibilities

Serve as the primary first responder (armed) to all life safety and property protection incidents on campus, including emergency medical assistance or first aid. Respond to calls or view incidents (medical, law enforcement, injuries, etc.) and document or follow up on safety issues. Provide Emergency Management support during larger-scale incidents. Patrol university properties when not on assignment. Control scenes, preserve and gather evidence, and prepare incident reports. Conduct initial and follow-up investigations as assigned. Collect documentary evidence (photos, videos) for criminal prosecution, insurance claims, or legal processes. Coordinate follow-up actions after incidents (e.g., transport to medical facilities, notify authorities) and assist faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Apprehend suspects for on-view or reported activity and prepare for testimony when required. May serve as a Field Training Officer or instructor and fulfill informal leadership duties in the absence of leads or supervisors. Conduct building checks, monitor access control devices and door locks, identify safety or security hazards, and apply problem-solving skills to resolve issues. Assist Medical Center personnel and visitors with directions and escorts; partner with customers in assigned areas to resolve multi-department issues and assist individuals with special needs. Control found property, locate owners where possible, and secure property per established procedures. Enforce parking regulations and support the Transportation Office as needed. Working Conditions

Requires extensive safety training; exposure to blood-borne pathogens, chemicals, and various hazards; on-call duties; ability to travel to on- and off-campus locations; potential exposure to animals and patient-care environments. Physical activities include standing, walking, running or climbing, bending, crouching, stooping, dexterous hand use, and occasional lifting (25–50 lbs). Education and Qualifications

Required : High school diploma or equivalent; ability to obtain and maintain a St. Louis Metropolitan Security License within 30 days of hire; ability to obtain Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D Driver’s license within 30 days of hire. Certifications

The list below may include all acceptable certifications. More than one credential may be required depending on the role. Licenses listed below are required or may be required within 30 days of hire: St. Louis Metropolitan Security License (within 30 days of hire) Work Experience

Security Officer in a professional security organization (2 years); armed officer in an academic or civilian/military police setting (1 year). Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice (preferred). Certifications: Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B) – Missouri Skills: crime reporting, incident response, emergency management, handcuffing, teamwork, written and oral communication, state and federal laws, cross-team collaboration Driver's License: Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D with clean driving record Salary and Benefits

Grade: G08-H; Salary: $21.17 - $32.85 per hour. Benefits include paid time off, health insurance, transit program, and a defined contribution retirement plan (403(b)) with employer contributions. Additional Information
