Overview
Employment Specialist (IPS) position with Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, serving communities across Brooklyn and Queens. The organization has over 125 years of experience providing quality social services and currently offers 160-plus programs for children, youth, adults, seniors, and individuals with mental illness. Under the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) initiative through OMH, the Employment Specialist will work with clients served by the CCNS Queens ACT team, a mobile, multidisciplinary mental health treatment team that integrates evidence-based treatment, rehabilitation, case management, and support services. ACT supports client recovery through an individualized approach that helps clients obtain and maintain housing, employment, relationships, and relief from symptoms and medication side effects.
Responsibilities
The IPS Employment Specialist provides intensive in-home and community-based services to help individuals with severe mental illness achieve employment-related goals and work in regular jobs.
Support the ACT Team by implementing evidence-based IPS methods to assist individuals in meeting and sustaining employment goals and achieving greater financial security.
Under supervision of the Clinical Director, implement key IPS principles into ACT services: integrating employment services with mental health treatment, supporting competitive integrated employment, systematic job development and placement, benefits counseling, and job coaching within a person-centered model of care with zero exclusions.
Collaborate with ACT team members and function as a vital part of interdisciplinary, community-based care.
Provide services to clients in home, community settings, provider offices, employment settings, and other locations as needed (65% of work hours in the community).
Provide direct support to clients with psychiatric diagnoses, co-occurring substance use, chronic physical health problems, and complex social needs who have identified employment goals.
Identify an individual’s interests in education, vocational training, and competitive employment; determine interventions to promote progress toward goals.
Assess and provide services in vocational/career assessment, benefits/income support counseling, vocational training, job development, and job coaching.
Identify services needed based on assessment of education, vocational and work history, and immediate needs; recommend objectives for the service plan.
Provide individual employment and vocational counseling and assist through all phases of vocational services.
Guide individuals in creating a professional image through mentorship and supportive counseling.
Integrate vocational goals and services with the tasks of all team members.
Assist with resume and CV creation, applications, and interview preparation.
Refer individuals to employment programs and assist with job development activities.
Track and report on systematic job development and community networking opportunities; participate in job fairs and maintain relationships with potential employers.
Assist in developing community support systems and networks by traveling through Queens and Brooklyn to outreach local employers.
Collaborate with the ACT Employment Specialist to ensure full access to IPS for all individuals served.
Participate in ACT team meetings, service and treatment plan development and reviews, and other clinical team meetings; share progress updates during team meetings and case conferences.
Collaborate with the ACT Team Employment Specialist to facilitate work readiness groups.
Complete required documentation and reporting in the New York Employment Services System (NYESS) and monthly IPS reporting to OMH.
Complete onboarding and ongoing monthly training via the IPS Learning Collaborative in CPI.
Education, Certifications, Licenses Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field.
Experience and Training
One year of training and/or experience in vocational assessment, job exploration, and skills development related to employment, counseling, or vocational rehabilitation.
Six months of experience working in human services with individuals with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.

Eligible for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Time management, organizational, and computer skills.
Ability to evaluate and intervene in crisis situations and be available for crisis consultation.
Bilingual Spanish/English speaking preferred.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
Competency in written, interpersonal, verbal and computational skills to document records in accordance with program standards.
