Responsibilities
Fosters and maintains effective working relationships among team members while holding all staff accountable for organizational commitments. Sets and maintains standards for quality and service, sharing knowledge and expertise to achieve desired results.
Provides supervision and mentorship for nursing staff in managing complex patient challenges including assessment, development of critical thinking skills, nursing interventions, communication and collaboration skills, and use of High Reliability Organization (HRO) tools. Serves as a role model to establish positive relationships with team members and patients. Provides direction and intervention when necessary to correct performance and behaviors.
Proactively rounds on and assists nurse residents with new skill development. Offers support to nurses with challenging assignments, procedures, and/or changes in a patient's condition.
Conducts performance improvement activities including medical records reviews and focused studies. Develops and implements new methodologies to evaluate and improve performance.
Explores options to develop process improvement and monitoring activities in response to identified issues, external standards or other anticipated needs.
Develops and implements action plans to resolve issues.
Supports activities and/or projects that promote patient satisfaction within a patient-centered care framework, working toward best practice targets.
Collaborates and provides guidance to nursing and ancillary team members to ensure quality standards are met.
Maintains cooperative relationships among health care teams by communicating information, responding to requests, building rapport and participating in team problem solving.
Collaborates and provides clinical input for appropriate bed placement.
Prioritizes ED throughput to inpatient units.
Provides proactive management of patients at risk for clinical deterioration. Assesses and provides recommendations, assists with communication with the care team and with interventionists, and assists with clinical decisions.
Supports management of Code Stroke, Code STEMI, Sepsis Protocol, and Targeted Temperature Management (TTM). May provide care until the patient is stable or transferred to a higher level of care. Coordinates with team members to set priorities for patient care.
Maintains a presence post call, follows up with the care team on patient status, and may facilitate debriefing after rapid response/code blue events.
Utilizes a broad knowledge base to effectively triage multiple time-sensitive requests. Partners with Administrative Supervisor to prioritize emergent responses.
Participates in quality improvement, chart reviews, productivity reporting, and data collection.
Supports the unit charge RN as needed. Assists with throughput and works to resolve discharge barriers.
Acts as a role model and leader to other nurses in the organization. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending internal educational workshops and committee/council activities.
Other duties and/or projects as assigned. Adheres to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Current and valid New Jersey Nursing license is required
BSN in progress and/or willing to acquire within three (3) years of hire
MSN preferred
BLS/CPR certification by American Heart Association is required
ACLS required
PALS required
Minimum of 3 years of pediatric-specific ICU and/or ED experience required
Telemetry certification, Titratable and Non-titratable drugs required
Demonstrated leadership, motivational skills, emotional maturity and ability to function independently and effectively under stress
Self-direction, critical thinking, delegation, problem solving and protocol development
Excellent verbal and non-verbal, written and listening skills. Ability to adapt communication style to different audiences and work collaboratively
Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple complex situations simultaneously
Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite)
