Scholastic Bowl Coach (Gompers Junior High School)
Position: Coach
Position Guide: Certified Personnel
Employment: Internal Staff, 9‑month term
Reports to: Jr. High Principal and Athletic Director
Qualifications
Professional expertise in the sport being coached
Current CPR/AED certification prior to first scheduled practice of season
Responsible professional behavior
Knowledge of game rules and league regulations
Demonstrated skills in youth leadership
Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of people
Participation in Coaches Certification Program
Responsibilities
Coach's individual participation in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved
Plan and schedule a regular program of practices throughout the season
Encourage academic success in the classroom by maintaining student eligibility records
Work closely with the athletic director in scheduling intramural and interscholastic contests
Recommend the purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms
Plan and conduct tryouts for sport being coached
Maintain necessary paperwork (attendance forms, tryout records, insurance forms, student physicals, etc.)
Enforce discipline and sportsman‑like behavior at all times
Oversee penalties for breach of such standards by individual students
Oversee the safety conditions of the facility and equipment on assigned sport
Participate in professional growth activities as scheduled
Assist Athletic Director in planning and supervising an annual recognition program for school athletes
Submit all media requests to Sandy Zalewski, Director of Communication and Development for publication. Coaches must not submit articles or interviews directly to media groups.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned
