Overview

Community Service Officer, University Police Department (Classification - Security Officer, Title Series - 11.260). UPD, Southern Command invites applications for current and future openings for Community Service Officers (CSO). Positions may be assigned to any campus including the College of Southern Nevada, Desert Research Institute, Nevada State College, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Under the direction of the Community Service Supervisor, this position will perform a variety of security related tasks for NSHE campuses under UPD, Southern Command. The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) was established in 1865 and is comprised of two doctoral-granting universities, a state college, four community colleges and one environmental research institute. UPD, Southern Command is a full service category I law enforcement agency serving UNLV, CSN, DRI and NSC. The department includes personnel and resources for a broad public safety mission. The successful candidate will demonstrate support for diversity, equity and inclusiveness and participate in maintaining a respectful, positive work environment. Responsibilities (Job Duties)

Maintains constant radio communication; monitors radio traffic and responds to calls addressed to them. Work independently without direct supervision. Stand unassisted for long periods of time. Assist in giving medical attention (CPR, defibrillator, first aid) as certified. Notify UPD of all emergency situations (fire alarms, disturbances, medical emergencies, etc.). Relay knowledge of emergency situations to responding police units. Provide walking safety escorts as directed or requested. Assist with unlocks for students or employees with authorized access. Collect Found Property and secure or release it appropriately. Provide assistance to other Campus Departments (e.g., Special Events, Vendor access). Complete walking patrols of buildings and grounds; check windows, locks and security systems. Submit work orders for observed issues (e.g., lights out, damaged property). Assist with checks of emergency call boxes. Assist with jump starts for disabled vehicles. Respond to non-confrontational calls for service as directed. Engage with community members and participate in outreach events. Observe, report and check on the welfare of individuals. Complete Information Reports for property intake or incidents as requested. Immediately report any injury sustained on duty. Perform other duties as assigned by a Supervisor or Superior Officers. Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in public contact work which included applying and implementing rules, regulations or established policies. (See Special Requirements) Special Requirements

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Pre-employment screening for controlled substances required. Evening, weekend and/or holiday work may be required. A valid driver\'s license is required at time of appointment and continuing employment. Some positions require CPR certification at appointment and continuing employment. Some positions require first aid certification at appointment and continuing employment. Preferred Qualifications

Grade 27, Step 1, salary $46,207.44. Step is the pay rate within a grade; initial appointments typically begin at Step 1 per NAC 284.170. Benefits and Perks
