Overview
Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Our MISSION is to help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services and by acting as environmental stewards to the Site’s Cold War legacy. Our VISION is to be the user site of choice for large-scale, high-hazard, national security experimentation, with premier facilities and capabilities below ground, on the ground, and in the air. Responsibilities
The Materials Testing Lab located at the NNSS has an opening for an experienced Quality Control Inspector to support ongoing projects.
Perform independent quality control inspections and verifications of items, systems, components, or products fabricated or installed by other workers for new or existing facilities and infrastructures.
Exhibit a high degree of technical knowledge and skills to apply national consensus codes and standards to inspect, examine, or test items to ensure they meet design requirements.
Maintain qualification and/or certification to perform Quality Control inspection activities in one or more disciplines (e.g., welding, nondestructive examination/testing, boilers and pressure systems, GD&T, materials testing and verification, concrete, soils, anchoring, etc.).
Make autonomous judgments during inspection activities to determine whether items, systems, components, or products are acceptable for use based on design requirements.
Generate nonconformance reports documenting objective evidence where items or products do not meet design requirements.
Identify nonconforming conditions or defects and prevent items or products from being released for use until resolved.
Interface with internal line personnel and external MSTS customers to analyze and correct production problems.
Document inspection or test results in accordance with national standards, codes, procedures, and engineering requirements as defined in written procedures.
Perform other duties as needed, assigned by management.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent training and experience, with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
Knowledge, skill, and ability in the field of quality control inspection; ability to pass an oral and written examination and demonstrate proficiency.
Experience interpreting national consensus codes and standards in the applicable inspection field; ability to prepare inspection plans, tests, checklists, establish inspection setups and techniques, select equipment, supervise tests, and evaluate results.
Knowledge of calibration methods, procedures, documentation, and maintenance of instrument standards used for inspection activities. Strong attention to detail and accuracy; commitment to safe work practices.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to record data accurately, understand technical journals, manuals, regulations, and procedures, and handle questions.
Ability to work independently, make decisions, prioritize, and demonstrate problem-solving, integrity, and judgment.
Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with customers, coworkers, management, and other personnel at all levels.
Computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet software are desirable.
Primary work location: NNSS (approximately 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, NV).
Work schedule: Monday – Thursday (4/10s), subject to change.
Pre-placement physical examination, including a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review, including checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment are subject to a federal background investigation to meet access requirements for classified information or matters if a DOE security clearance is required. Substance abuse, falsification of information, criminal activity, or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship and at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, and for certain roles, 10 CFR Part 709. The position may require counterintelligence evaluation and related procedures.
