Aquatics Coordinator
Under the supervision of the Director of Wellness Operations and Recreation, the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for the overall operation and general maintenance of the Wellness Center swimming pool. This full‑time position ensures a safe and efficient aquatic program at the Wellness Center Natatorium, complying with Fulton County health codes, industry laws, regulations, and standards governing pool maintenance, aquatic programming, and operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and market aquatic programming and recreational services.
Operate independently toward goals outlined by the Director of Wellness Operations.
Oversee scheduling of programming activities and evaluate program effectiveness and participation.
Create and implement initiatives and member‑led activities to promote community engagement.
Communicate community benefits and program impact to all stakeholders.
Manage assigned grants, including deliverables, tracking, and reporting.
Mitigate risk in all aquatics functions, including training, performance, safety checks, and daily operations.
Ensure Risk Management procedures are followed and that all programs comply with governing standards and regulations.
Display professional behavior and promote the mission, values, and protocols of the institution.
Market aquatics activities to students, faculty, and staff.
Supervise lifeguards and water safety instructors; occasionally serve as instructor, lifeguard, or maintenance personnel.
Lead development of short‑ and long‑range plans for the Aquatics Department.
Coordinate, schedule, and maintain records and statistics for programs and personnel.
Maintain the swimming pool, surrounding areas, and equipment; brush and vacuum pools, backwash filters, clear drains, and comply with all regulations.
Conduct daily water inspections for chemical balances, bacteria levels, pH, and temperature; apply chemicals as needed.
Maintain orderly facility areas, including signage, chairlifts, flooring, walls, and equipment spaces.
Operate hand and power tools for pool maintenance; operate chemical testing equipment and ADA chairlifts.
Communicate with facility management regarding repairs and coordinate schedules.
Monitor inventory, ensure proper storage and disposal of chemicals, and order supplies as needed.
Maintain, analyze, and submit records on user counts, water conditions, incidents, and emergency equipment.
Report health and safety hazards to the Director of Wellness Operations, including: insufficient pool chemistry, presence of animals/ vermin, needed cleaning supplies or equipment repairs, and other hazards.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in sports management, recreation management, or a related field.
Three or more years of related experience in aquatics recreational programming, including lifeguarding and instruction of swimming lessons.
Three or more years of leadership and managerial experience in an aquatics or recreational role.
Strong customer service focus with excellent communication and time‑management skills.
Professional demeanor with the ability to interact with internal and external customers with diplomacy and tact.
Good oral and written communication skills; ability to read, analyze, and interpret safety rules and technical procedures.
Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the Internet.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree.
Current Lifeguard certification.
Current Lifeguard Instructor certification.
Certifications, Licenses, Restrictions
Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification required.
Current Water Safety Instructor certification required.
Physical Demands The employee is required to sit, walk, use hands for office supplies, operate a computer and pool equipment, talk, and hear; frequently requires reaching, and occasionally requires standing, stooping, climbing, lifting up to 55 pounds, and adjusting vision focus.
Shift As needed.
Travel Required 1% – 25%.
