Overview
The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Southcoast Region Highways & Aviation/M&O is looking for an Equipment Operator, Journey 1/2 in Klawock to help us keep Alaska moving. What you will be doing: Journey 1 : Performs airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. Complies with applicable FHWA, FAA, TSA, and State rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of highways and airports. Uses light-duty equipment for maintenance; heavy equipment use is in a training capacity. Journey 2 : Performs airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the core competencies below: Transportation : Knowledge of moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road including cost and limits. Vehicle operation : Knowledge of operating motor vehicles, including cars, trucks, or watercraft. Problem solving : Identifies problems; evaluates information; uses judgment to make recommendations. Eye-hand coordination : Coordinates eyes with hands/arms to perform job tasks. CDL requirements : This position requires a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) per federal regulations to perform safety sensitive duties. See Drug & Alcohol policy below. A conditional hire may be allowed for endorsements where specified. Equipment Operator Journey 1 : Hire is conditional on obtaining a Class A CDL within six months of hire and signing an agreement to this effect. Equipment Operator Journey 2 : A Class A CDL is required at time of hire. A conditional hire may be given for endorsements, including obtaining an N-Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire. Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy. A pre-employment drug test is required, and the CDL Clearinghouse will be checked for compliance with federal regulations. The employer may review driver information under 49 CFR 382. Other requirements
Arms and ammunition policy: This position may require handling firearms or ammunition where applicable. If you have a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, you may not hold a position in this job class per federal law. Flexibly staffed: This vacancy may be filled at either Equipment Operator Journey 1 or Journey 2 level depending on training/experience.
