Job Summary

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of an assigned production shift, ensuring that production schedules are met while maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency standards. This role involves leading a team of Team Leads and Machine Operators, monitoring production activities, and resolving any issues that arise during the manufacturing process. The Production Supervisor collaborates with other departments, ensures compliance with safety regulations and company policies, and promotes continuous improvement initiatives to optimize production performance. This position also plays a key role in training and developing team members to meet organizational goals.

Main Duties And Responsibilities (other Duties May Be Assigned)

Supervise Daily Production Activities

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the production floor ensuring all resources are in place to achieve production goals.

Kickoff the start of each daily shift, providing clear expectations for the team regarding expected output, scrap, quality, safety, etc., and communicating any important messages/news with the team.

Assign tasks to production team members, monitor progress of daily goals, and ensure that the schedule is followed.

Ensure that all products are manufactured according to quality and safety standards.

Lead, train, coach, and motivate production team members to achieve performance goals.

Provide ongoing feedback, conduct performance reviews, and support team member development.

Address and resolve personnel issues, including conflicts, absenteeism, or disciplinary actions partnering with HR.

Ensure that production meets established quality standards and follows all work instructions and procedures.

Monitor the performance of machines and personnel to ensure optimal productivity and minimal downtime.

Implement improvements to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve product quality.

Enforce safety regulations and ensure the safe operation of equipment and machinery.

Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure that all team members follow safety protocols.

Report and investigate accidents or safety incidents, implementing corrective actions where necessary.

Identify and troubleshoot production issues such as machine malfunctions, material shortages, or quality problems and promptly elevate as needed.

Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and quality teams to resolve production issues quickly and effectively.

Develop and implement action plans to avoid future production issues.

Work with the Production Manager to plan and schedule daily production activities.

Ensure the availability of materials, tools, and labor to meet production schedules.

Conduct timely handoff of shift highlighting hot issues that need to be addressed.

Adjust production priorities in response to changing demands, resource availability, or unforeseen issues.

Monitor, track and develop a solid understanding of production metrics such as output, efficiency, quality, and waste. Utilize data to make informed decisions.

Conduct communication meetings with employees to discuss KPIs, 5s expectations, production variations, etc. to foster transparency and accountability.

Prepare and submit production reports to management, highlighting performance, issues, and improvements.

Ensure that production targets are met or exceeded and identify opportunities for improvement.

Coordinate with departments such as quality, maintenance, logistics, and procurement to ensure smooth production operations.

Communicate with supervisors from other shifts to ensure continuity in production.

Ensure that all team members are properly trained on operating machinery, safety procedures, and production processes.

Provide on-the-job training and support for new hires or team members taking on new roles.

Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement encouraging team members to contribute ideas for enhancing processes.

Monitor material usage and inventory levels to ensure supplies are available for continuous production.

Work with the Production Control department to ensure timely deliveries of raw materials and components.

Requirements

Education

High school diploma or GED, Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Business Administration, or related field a plus.

Experience

Minimum of 3-5 years’ supervisory experience in manufacturing. Automotive industry preferred.

ISO 9001 and/or IATF16949 experience preferred.

Proven leader with ability to motivate teams and drive accountability.

Computer Skills

Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and in the use of e-mail, web browser applications.

Mathematical Abilities

Intermediate-advanced math skills.

Analytical Or Reasoning Abilities

Strong analytical, research, planning skills and critical thinking ability required with orientation for continuous improvement. Ability to work logically and systematically with effective time management.

Ability to understand and follow written technical procedures/instructions.

Ability to effectively prepare business and technical documentation such as procedures, reports, presentations, etc.

Communication Skills: (Writing, Foreign Language, Reasoning)

Ability to read, write and speak English

Highly effective, articulate communication skills (verbal & written) with strong interpersonal effectiveness and the ability to work with all levels in the organization and across cultures.

Bilingual English-Spanish preferred.

Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work.

Physical Requirements

90% will be spent on the production floor completing work related to the position while the remaining 10% of the time will be spent doing desk-related work on a computer and working with basic office equipment.

Must be able to lift 25 pounds individually and team lift 50 pounds.

Must be able to perform this job safely in accordance with standard operating procedures without endangering the health or safety of self or others. Must wear all personal protective equipment where required.
