Demand Planner
Develop and manage demand forecasts that drive production, procurement, and capacity planning in a make‑to‑order (MTO) manufacturing environment for medical device components.
This role coordinates between Sales, Operations, and Finance to meet customer requirements and production lead times with high precision.
The Demand Planner is a key contributor in the sales & operations planning (S&OP) process—leveraging data, customer insights, and cross‑functional input to translate market demand into actionable production and material plans.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain customer demand forecasts for MTO components, aligning forecasts with confirmed orders, contracts, and project timelines.
Collaborate with Sales and Customers to understand long‑range plans and successfully plan resources and capacity.
Analyze historical order patterns, market trends, and customer-supplied forecasts to anticipate demand and production readiness.
Lead monthly Demand Review discussions as part of the S&OP process, communicating forecast updates, risks, and opportunities to key stakeholders.
Monitor forecast accuracy (MAPE, bias) and develop corrective actions to improve predictability in a variable‑demand environment.
Maintain accurate demand data within the ERP and demand planning systems (Oracle, SAP, or equivalent) and ensure data integrity for capacity planning.
Collaborate with Sales and Finance to align demand forecasts with revenue projections.
Participate in new product introduction (NPI) and engineering change planning to ensure smooth integration of new parts and phase‑out of obsolete components.
Support continuous improvement initiatives in demand planning and S&OP to enhance responsiveness, visibility, and cross‑functional alignment.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field required; MBA preferred.
3+ years of experience in demand planning or supply chain planning.
Strong understanding of Make‑to‑Order (MTO) or Engineer‑to‑Order (ETO) manufacturing processes.
Proficiency in forecasting techniques, ERP systems (Oracle, SAP), and demand planning tools (Anaplan, KetteQ).
Demonstrated ability to balance forecast accuracy with production flexibility in a low‑volume, high‑mix environment.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, macros).
Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
APICS‑CPIM or CSCP certification preferred.
Strong business acumen and a proactive approach to identifying risks, constraints, and improvement opportunities across the planning process.
