Navajo Nation Outreach & Community Engagement Specialist
to serve as a vital ambassador for
Yideeska´adi Hózhóójí Center
(YHC), a Phoenix-based residential substance use treatment facility owned by the Navajo Nation. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact by building trusted relationships and promoting recovery and wellness through culturally respectful engagement.
Duties/Responsibilities
Represent YHC at chapter meetings, health fairs, and wellness events across Navajo Nation and the Four Corners area.
Build trusted relationships with IHS, DBMHS, local providers, and referring agencies.
Educate families about SUD treatment options, intake criteria, and insurance processes.
Coordinate outreach events, tabling, provider trainings, and in-services.
Create and share culturally respectful social media or local media content about YHC programming.
Partner closely with the Admissions Team to support every referral with care and accuracy.
Track your outreach and referral activity using CRM tools like KIPU and Microsoft Teams.
Skills and Qualifications
Deep cultural awareness and connection to Diné communities (lived or professional).
Experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or community recovery work.
Strong understanding of AHCCCS/Medicaid, TRBHA, 915 waivers, and Native-specific insurance.
Clear and compassionate communication skills—both in person and online.
Ability to work remotely and independently, with regular travel throughout Navajo Nation.
Comfort using technology (Microsoft Office, Outlook, EHRs, CRMs like KIPU).
Bilingual in Navajo and English is preferred but not required.
Schedule & Work Style
Field-based position based on Navajo Nation or surrounding areas.
Requires reliable transportation and ability to attend events across regions.
Includes some evenings/weekends to meet community needs.
Works closely with Phoenix-based teams (remote coordination required).

Requirements
3–5+ years in tribal health, behavioral health, community outreach, or related roles.
Bachelor’s degree in health, social services, or community development preferred.
Experience working directly with IHS, DBMHS, TRHBAs, or tribal government systems.
