Role The

Global Category Manager - Chemicals

will report to the Director of Global Category Management Chemicals and be responsible for developing, validating, and implementing the global procurement strategy for sub‑categories within the portfolio. The role works with Product Managers, Regional Category Leaders, Technology, and Supply Chain Leaders.

Key Characteristics

Defines a Global Category Strategy for assigned categories that drives continuous improvement and business benefits.

Develops and implements a comprehensive global sourcing strategy for polymers, amines & chelants, and hydrocarbon solvents, including raw materials, intermediates, and specialty chemicals.

Identifies market trends, supply‑chain risks, and opportunities for innovation and optimization.

Develops and manages a Preferred Supplier Network and Strategic Suppliers.

Defines contracting strategy and leads supplier negotiations.

Drives cash improvements across assigned categories.

Mitigates risks by implementing a comprehensive sole/single/double source strategy to build a flexible supply chain.

Develops a best‑cost‑country strategy to optimise total landed cost.

Leads supplier relationship management processes, including periodic business reviews.

Influence & Change Management

Obtains agreement of the strategy from all stakeholders and publishes it for all users.

Provides facilitative leadership reports to leadership on market trends and category performance.

Maintains ongoing dialogue with regional procurement teams, regional category managers, global product managers, and technology department on key supplier issues.

Qualifications Hard Skills

Strong negotiation skills and influence capabilities.

In‑depth familiarity with market trends and key suppliers in chemicals.

Experience in strategy development and implementation.

Conducts market research and analysis to stay current on industry trends, technologies, and competitor activities.

Provides insights and recommendations to senior leadership for strategic decision‑making.

Ensures compliance with regulations, safety standards, and sustainability practices.

Leads contract negotiations, achieving favorable terms and ensuring corporate policy compliance.

Manages contract lifecycle processes, renewals, and compliance tracking.

Soft Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; capable of developing presentations and interacting with stakeholders.

Creative, organized, and self‑motivated.

Experience working across cultures and in a matrixed organization.

Education & Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

12+ years of experience in procurement, category management, or supply‑chain management with a focus on chemicals.

Proven track record of strategic sourcing and supplier management in a global context.

Preferred

Experience working in a matrixed organization across different cultures.

Additional Information

Regional and global travel required – 30%.
