Position Overview
Westbrook High School is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Head Coach for the Indoor Track & Field program. The successful candidate will lead a program that emphasizes athletic development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth while representing the values of the Blue Blazes and the Southern Maine Activities Association (SMAA). The ideal candidate will create a positive and inclusive team culture, develop athletes across a range of track and field events, and support both competitive success and academic achievement.
Responsibilities
Lead, organize, and supervise all aspects of the indoor track and field
Develop and implement training plans that support athletes in sprints, distance, jumps, throws, and relays.
Promote a team culture that values effort, respect, accountability, and
Oversee assistant coaches and ensure alignment with program philosophy and
Monitor student‑athlete academic performance and eligibility in collaboration with school
Manage meet entries, practice schedules, equipment inventory, and facility
Communicate effectively with student‑athletes, parents, and school
Ensure adherence to Westbrook School Department, Maine Principals' Association (MPA), and SMAA policies.
Model and teach sportsmanship, leadership, and positive character
Required
Demonstrated knowledge of indoor track and field coaching techniques, event training, and safety
Prior coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or club
Ability to motivate and inspire student‑
Strong communication and organizational
Commitment to promoting equity, inclusion, and a positive athletic
Must meet MPA and Westbrook School Department coaching certification requirements (including CHRC).
Preferred
Previous experience coaching in the SMAA or similar competitive
Experience working with multi‑event training groups and athlete development over multiple seasons.
Background in strength and conditioning or athletic performance
Compensation Stipend per Westbrook Education Association (WEA) contract, based on experience and district coaching scale.
