We will be hiring two individuals for separate positions for this role. As part of our work with the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program, the Research Project Coordinator will support the Department of Epidemiology at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth by coordinating the implementation and ongoing activities for a large National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded ECHO birth cohort study.
Position Purpose To support the Department of Epidemiology at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in achieving its mission to conduct rigorously constructed research and apply state‑of‑the‑art methods and technologies to advance epidemiology and impact human health and disease. In collaboration with project leaders, the Coordinator will oversee the execution of the NIH‑funded ECHO birth cohort study.
Key Responsibilities
Interviewing and Data/Biospecimen Collection – 60%:
Implement research activities at participating medical clinics and study sites, including distribution and completion of surveys, data collection, subject identification, recruitment, interviewing, and scheduling.
Provide education and instruction to participants on informed consent, study materials, sample collection, measurements, and follow‑up processes.
Collect data in person and remotely, including spirometry, cognitive assessments, anthropometric measurements, and survey data.
Collect biospecimens according to protocol and coordinate delivery with laboratories and staff.
Enter accurate study data into databases promptly and maintain high research professionalism to ensure participant engagement and retention.
Coordination – 20%:
Work closely with the principal investigator and research directors on protocol development and updates.
Maintain communication with investigators and staff regarding progress, sample collection, and protocol adherence.
Assist with data monitoring, report preparation, IRB renewals, and other administrative activities.
Maintain study supplies, equipment, and manage mailings and material inventories.
Data Management – 10%:
Ensure successful collection and management of data, maintain confidentiality and integrity.
Maintain an accurate tracking system for IRB‑approved documents and ensure protocol materials are current.
Medical Records – 5%:
Conduct medical record reviews as per protocol and serve as a clinical resource for other staff.
Coordinate with medical and administrative staff for record review activities.
Miscellaneous – 5%:
Perform other study tasks as needed, including diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness activities.
Adhere to public health recommendations regarding COVID‑19 and demonstrate professionalism and collegiality.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in health or social sciences, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
5 years of experience as a study coordinator, recruiting and interviewing research participants, or comparable experience.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate a complex research project with minimal supervision.
High degree of independence and responsibility for timely completion of project activities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and web‑based applications.
Ability to apply critical thinking and sound judgment to open‑ended problems.
Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
Must complete educational requirements for Dartmouth Committee on the Protection of Human Subjects (IRB) upon hire and appropriate laboratory and safety training(s).
Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel to other study sites in the region as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in health or social sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with performing spirometry or pulmonary function testing (PFTs).
Experience working with children.
