Overview

Open to the general public, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Technicians (IBEW-Tech), Local 1547 members, and any current Municipal Employees. This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Technicians (IBEW-Tech), Local 1547, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union. DEPARTMENT : Public Transportation HOURS OF WORK : Shifts vary; Monday to Sunday LOCATION : 3701 Dr MLK Jr Avenue To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

Applicants shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement:

Internal applicants currently working under the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Technicians (IBEW-Tech), Local 1547 Collective Bargaining Agreement

Local union dispatched applicants

External applicants and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement

Responsibilities Assisting mechanics and mechanic leadman as well as independent inspection, diagnosis and performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs deemed critical to preserving in operational and/or safety integrity of Public Transportation Department buses and other Public Transportation Department vehicles and equipment.

Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

and

completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship program

and

two ( 2 ) years of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience.

OR

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

and

three ( 3 ) years of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience.

Additional Requirements All applicants must possess and/or complete:

Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.

A valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement and NO Air Brake Restriction satisfactory driving record at time of hire.

State of Alaska /OSHA Forklift Operators Card

Physical Examination (including Full Functional Capacity Evaluation) with audiogram.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory background check, including verification of education and dates of employment.

Appointment in this position will be conditional upon

submission of a current copy

of the applicant's State of Alaska driver’s license and State of Alaska Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) or Class B CDL with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction; and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of driving record. Processing fees are the responsibility of the selected applicant. For information on acceptable driving history, refer to the MOA Driving Conviction Guidelines.

As a condition of employment, the selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a medical physical examination including a full functional capacity evaluation with audiogram and may be subject to future drug and alcohol tests on a random basis without advance notice.

Additional conditional requirements include completion and review of Previous Employer Alcohol & Drug Test Information Forms. Names, addresses, and phone numbers for positions that required Department of Transportation testing for the last two years will be required in compliance with § 40.25 and § 382.405(f) and (h).

All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

Military Service Interview Preference Veterans

or those who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. Documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.

Individuals currently serving in National Guard or organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference must attach proof of current service. Proof can be a statement of service with required details (name, DOB, SSN, service dates, branch, rank, command, unit). The statement must be on official letterhead and include signer information.
