Job Title
Transportation Engineer (Civil) – Project Engineer – Major Maintenance – Caltrans District 3 – San Luis Obispo County, CA
Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Pavement/Bridge/Drainage/Facilities Manager, develop plans, specifications, and estimates for Major Maintenance projects (Roadway, Roadside, Structures, Traffic Guidance, Electrical, Drainage, TBMP, and Facilities.)
Perform field reviews, identify possible solutions, and prioritize needs as necessary.
Review and analyze the current condition of the Maintenance Program assets and work closely with HQ and other District programs to meet program objectives and requirements.
Prepare and deliver Minor B Projects and Service Contracts and assist in the preparation of project PS&E package.
Coordinate with the District and HQ functional units for the preparation of project PS&E package and review project priority and develop the annual project proposals for Maintenance Program.
Qualifications
College degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
Professional Engineering (PE) license in Civil issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required for range D; not required for other ranges.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in transportation or highway maintenance design, with solid knowledge of state and local maintenance standards.
Knowledge of SB 1, SB 26, SB 35, TBMP, and other district budget mechanisms is preferred.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
