Overview
Position Overview: Davey Tree Expert Co. is looking for an experienced diesel/gas, medium- to heavy-duty truck and forestry equipment road mechanic. The role includes roughly a 30-day training period (time may vary with amount of experience) before being released on the road. This is a physically demanding, hands-on position. Overtime will be required during hurricane season. Some Saturdays will be required due to workload.
Responsibilities
Responsible for equipment maintenance in the Greater Charlotte Area.
Repair trucks, aerial units, chippers, tractors, tree cutters, stump grinders, and other forestry equipment. Training will be provided as needed.
Repair work could include clutch, rear differential, transmission, turbo, etc., in the field.
Welding will be required.
Communicate with account managers and account GFs for scheduling weekly work.
Locate parts for equipment to be repaired.
Fill out labor and parts forms plus time reports each week and email them.
Keep inventory parts on the service truck.
Train on aerial lift bucket trucks from diagnosing hydraulic leaks to yearly inspections.
Perform annual DOT inspections on all required equipment.
Possibly 3–4 days away from home based on home base location if more than 1.5 hours away.
Average 50–60 hours per week (more for storm work). Home mostly every weekend (excluding storm work).
Qualifications
Must have a CDL A or B.
Must not have a fear of heights (aerial reaches up to 75').
Must have a full complete set of tools including air or battery tools; Davey will supply all specialty tools.
Must be able to understand hydraulic and wiring schematics.
Must have experience performing DOT annual inspections.
Must have some welding experience.
Must have experience with diagnostic software to troubleshoot diagnostic codes; computer literacy required.
