Overview

The Patient Scheduler reports to the Office Manager, performing a variety of clerical, scheduling and recordkeeping duties. Responsibilities

Answers phones, routes calls, takes messages, and initiates telephone calls as requested. Enters and edits patient information in the computer system, including patient type and activity. Follows clinical informatics downtime procedures for entering data into the patient\'s electronic profile. Obtains missing patient data from nursing units or outside facilities as needed. Schedules office and testing appointments using Invision/Ecw. Obtains written physician orders and verifies them for accuracy and completeness. Maintains all pertinent paperwork on each patient in a daily file. Contacts physician offices or appropriate locations to obtain required patient history and physical information when necessary. Reviews physician/testing orders for accuracy and informs the Office Manager of discrepancies. Screens patients, answers questions, and provides routine instructions to patients, physician offices, and hospital personnel regarding testing preparations. Instructs patients and physician offices on proper registration procedures and exam preparation. Provides testing clerical support staff with orders and generates reports for management. Contacts physician offices regarding patient cancellations or no-shows. Assists in the training of staff and participates in monthly staff meetings. Minimum Qualifications

BASIC KNOWLEDGE: High school graduate plus one year formal training, or equivalent. Typing/data entry required. Knowledge of medical terminology required. Detail oriented. Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital staff of all levels. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity. EXPERIENCE: Two years’ clerical experience, preferably in a health care environment. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Normal office environment. Requires standing, bending, and sitting. Sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use computer keyboard and other common office equipment. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None. Pay
