Telecommunicator I, (A262341-1), 205, 911 Communications Dispatches calls for emergency and non‑emergency situations for the City. Provides information to police and fire units, connects callers with City services, and files and organizes warrants as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Sets priorities among incoming events and dispatches police to necessary locations using radios and computers.

Maintains radio contact to ensure accurate status of equipment and personnel.

Receives and transmits telephone and radio emergency calls, as well as non‑emergency calls, complaints, and inquiries from the public.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including computers and applicable software.

Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

Knowledge of policies and procedures for emergency medical dispatch (EMD).

WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Office or similar indoor environment, relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.

Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards; occasional outside work.

Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards; majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, negligible amount frequently; constant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

U.S. Citizen.

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

VALID LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS

Valid Texas identification card or government issued ID.

40‑hour Basic Telecommunicator Certification to be obtained within six months of employment.

24‑hour TCIC/TLETS full access with CCH certificate within six months.

4‑hour TTY or TDD Certification within six months.

First Aid Standard Certification within six months.

Adult, Child & Infant CPR Certification within six months.

Cardiac Emergency Communications Certification within six months.

TCOLE Telecommunicator License within six months.

BACKGROUND CHECK & DRUG ALCOHOL TESTING All selected applicants are required to undergo a background check and a drug and alcohol test prior to employment. Random drug and alcohol testing applies to safety‑sensitive positions.
