Bowery Residents' Committee
Responsibilities Provide direct outreach, escort, and referral services for homeless individuals encountered during shifts; maintain accurate statistical data and case‑record management for clients receiving longer‑term services; recognize mental health and substance abuse symptoms and develop a working knowledge of available services.
Hours Full‑time 37.5 hours per week.
Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree required or demonstrated equivalent experience.
Consideration given to current BRC employees in comparable positions with a minimum of 6 months continuous employment.
Strong interest in direct services to homeless and/or mentally ill and substance‑abusing populations.
Valid state driver’s license required.
Good writing skills for client interaction documentation.
Basic computer literacy.
Ability to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health and substance abuse issues and knowledge of available services.
Spanish language skills desirable.
First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain required certifications.

Program Description Jointly funded by the Department of Homeless Services and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, BRC’s Transit Homeless Outreach staff operate throughout the transit system 24/7. The program serves the NYC metropolitan area and connects clients with housing and essential services.
