Job Description Student Technical Crew – the Lied Center of Kansas is a presenting venue on West Campus that hosts professional music, dance, and theatrical tours, University ensembles, and community events. Members of the Student Technical Crew assist with the set‑up, running, and tear‑down of Lied Center events. Responsibilities include hanging and focusing lights, changing lamps, repairing cables, running lighting consoles, moving curtains, loading and unloading counterweight arbors, setting up and striking acoustic shells, running audio systems, operating cameras and video projections, laying dance floors, sweeping, mopping, laundering and pressing costumes, cleaning production areas as needed, and supporting the technical aspects of the facility under the supervision of full‑time technical staff. Students work as part of a team of more than 50 crew members and are expected to meet deadlines. Training is provided.

Required Qualifications

Adhere to an online‑based scheduling system.

Follow directions diligently.

Communicate clearly, timely, and consistently via email.

Have a flexible schedule and work well with others.

Provide two two‑hour blocks of time during weekdays, not including noon‑1pm.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in concert, theatre, or video production.

Working knowledge of stagecraft with relevant background (e.g., fly crew, sound, electrician, carpenter, prop handler, costumes, camera operator).

Position Requirements During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must be enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or be enrolled in a summer session or be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

This is an hourly/non‑exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non‑exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
