The job of the Student Advocate was established for the purpose of assisting Jr high school students who may be below proficiency and need additional support. Under the direction of the designated Lead Counselor, the aide will develop students' skills, provide support, and communicate with educational stakeholders while offering them education. Essential Functions

First and foremost, you must have a desire to make a difference in kids' lives. Responsible for providing guidance and advocacy to students to ensure they meet academic and behavioral requirements to move to the next grade level. Link students and their families to school and community resources. Monitor attendance and discipline. Communicate with administration, counselors, students, and families. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The aide will work with students in the Weber Innovation Early College High School as part of their support system. Fill out progress charts, counsel students on good study skills, take attendance, advocate for students, and promote the program in the junior high. Communicate accurately and timely with students and their families to ensure a continuous school/family partnership exists. Evaluate student progress including attendance, academic, and behavioral data. Coordinate with community partners to build resources. Keep accurate records of student, parent, staff, and community contacts. Participate in stakeholder conferences to develop student action plans. Assist with the supervision of students during instructional and non-instructional time. Support a positive school climate while interacting with students, families, staff, and community members. Maintain confidentiality when dealing with students, families, staff, and community members. Perform moderate to extensive physical activity including frequent standing or walking. Facilitate social and emotional growth with students. Improve professional competence through professional development. Participate in staff meetings at both site and district levels. Attendance must be adequate to acceptably perform listed job functions. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the supervisor. Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Must be able to operate standard office equipment; prepare and maintain accurate records; utilize pertinent software applications; and utilize problem-solving techniques. Must have knowledge of instructional/tutorial procedures and practices; intervention techniques; age-appropriate activities; stages of child development; and safety practices and procedures.
