The Department of Health and Human Performance’s Leisure and Sport Management Program at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#118040) in sport management at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2026. The successful candidate will be highly engaged in research and community service, and pursue interdisciplinary collaboration with potential for external funding and contracts. Responsibilities include teaching courses in the undergraduate major in Leisure and Sport Management, the master’s degree in Leisure, Sport, and Tourism Management, and the doctoral degree in Human Performance with a concentration in Leisure Studies.
Responsibilities
Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate sport studies, sport management, or sport governance curricula.
Provide excellent teaching, mentoring, and advising to students.
Design and deliver online and face‑to‑face coursework.
Develop a focused, productive, and potentially fundable research program.
Collaborate across disciplines with potential for external funding.
Required Education
A terminal degree in sport management, recreation, sport, parks, leisure services management, or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.
Other Desirables
Curricular expertise in sport for development, sport and events, or sport management and governance.
Track record of scholarship incorporating a critical theoretical lens.
Track record of extramural funding supporting a focused research agenda.
Service to professional organizations via committee service.
Service to scholarly publications in the field.
Demonstrated evidence or strong potential for securing external research or community engagement funding.
