Overview
Employment Specialist I - Arc Allegany-Steuben The Arc Allegany-Steuben is seeking an Employment Specialist I to assist individuals enrolled in Project Search, Student Internship Experiences, Community Habilitation, Community Prevocational Services and Supported Employment to prepare for paid employment or unpaid meaningful community activities, including volunteering. The Employment Specialist reports to the Associate Director of Vocational Services.
Responsibilities
Regulatory and Corporate Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulations, agency policies and procedures; ensure required documentation is complete, accurate and legible; ensure the agency\'s incident management process is followed; provide input in policy and form development; follow chain of command and policy; promote high-quality support by implementing the Code of Ethics and Core Competencies; maintain confidentiality.
Financial Management: Assist with adherence to the annual budget and accurate management of individuals\' funds; complete personal allowance documentation and other financial documentation per procedure.
Person Centered Services: Provide services as planned in each person\'s Life Plan (IPOP, Community Habil Plan, Community Prevoc Plan, Supported Employment Plan, Behavior Support Plans, Day Habilitation Plan, and other safeguards); implement activities per Staff Action Plan and Life Plan; plan and coordinate daily activities; act as an advocate; complete assessments and baseline data; assist with community integration; respect privacy and confidentiality; collaborate with staff, families, college personnel & community; ensure emergency medical procedures are followed and consult with medical chain of command; provide services per Plan of Nursing Services (PONS); report medical concerns; conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with Rise Project Manager; develop 1-page profiles and assist with POMS as applicable; support vocational goal development and preparation for competitive employment or meaningful community activities; train in soft skills, stress management, and workplace navigation; maintain a positive learning environment and teamwork.
Program Standard: Maintain an environment that supports personal development; complete daily responsibilities, documentation, filing, and routine operational reports; identify and develop new services and support opportunities; complete monthly summaries; work independently, problem-solve, and think critically; teach tasks with adaptable instruction; break down tasks to meet business quality; manage multiple programs and funding sources; develop natural supports.
Physical Plant and Safety: Ensure a safe, clean site; know and follow fire evacuation plan; observe infection control practices; ensure site vehicles are maintained as applicable.
Contacts with Others: Develop and maintain positive relationships with families, local businesses, service providers and community resources; ensure positive internal and external communications that reflect mission and respect privacy; address customer concerns promptly and professionally.
Additional Functions: Participate in agency committees and trainings; assist with coverage as assigned; maintain certifications and training updates; may use private vehicle to transport individuals; flexible with work locations and hours as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or TASC. Two years’ experience working with people with developmental disabilities preferred. Demonstrated alignment with the agency\'s mission, vision, and ethics.
Ability to work with respect, professionalism, teamwork, and empathy; knowledge of employer expectations and local job market.
CPR/First Aid/AED and SCIP Certification within first six months; complete 24 hours of Innovations in Employment Support Training in first year and 6 hours annually thereafter; complete Tier 1 or Tier 2 training from NY Consortium within first year; 6 hours of continuing education annually.
Valid driver\'s license and acceptable driving record where position requires driving; up-to-date vehicle inspection, registration, and insurance if transporting individuals; willingness to enroll in LENS (Licensed Event Notification System).
Basic Microsoft Office skills; strong written and verbal communication; ability to operate office and medical equipment; ability to operate wheelchair vans if applicable; ability to work varied hours including nights and weekends as needed.
Additional Qualifications/Requirements
Where position requires driving: valid driver\'s license and acceptable safe driving record.
Where position requires driving individuals served by the Agency: motor vehicle with up-to-date inspection, registered and insured.
Will be required to enroll in LENS (Licensed Event Notification System).
Authority and Accountability This position has no direct authority or supervision responsibilities. It operates under the immediate supervision of the Associate Director of Vocational Services and is responsible for preparing individuals for paid employment or unpaid meaningful community activities, following standard agency policy and procedures. Budget adherence to expense guidelines and program requirements is expected.
