Seeking a Legal Secretary to support attorneys in our in‑house counsel firm at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.

The role includes preparing standard legal documents, proofreading, filing with courts, managing attorney calendars, and other back‑office support tasks.

Hybrid position:

Candidates within 50 miles of Kansas City, MO are required to report onsite once a week. This requirement is subject to change.

Base pay range:

$45,000 /yr – $68,000 /yr

Responsibilities

Prepare standard legal documents.

Handle routine inquiries in an Attorney’s absence (e.g., negotiate extensions of time).

Manage attorney’s calendar through Legal Files (schedule appointments, coordinate depositions and appearances).

Resolve scheduling conflicts with attorney’s approval.

Use computer applications to the fullest degree.

Answer selective telephone inquiries based on case knowledge.

Respond to written or telephone inquiries with a standard letter.

Establish, maintain, and when necessary, revise attorney’s files.

Perform additional duties as requested such as maintaining lists of witnesses, subpoenas, fees, etc.

Qualifications

Screen visitors and telephone calls, responding to inquiries on status of pending cases.

Prepare standard legal documents utilizing templates.

Proofread and correct prepared materials for proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, format, syntax, and content.

Ensure legal documents contain all necessary portions or related documentation for court acceptance; file legal documents with proper courts.

Prepare and assemble materials, documents, and exhibits for meetings, court appearances, and hearings, including electronic media and technology used within the office and court system.

Sort, open, log, and distribute incoming mail, attaching correspondence to case file and related materials needed for action with use of office technology and document management systems.

Manage attorney’s calendar through Legal Files (schedule appointments, coordinate depositions and appearances).

Resolve scheduling conflicts with attorney’s approval.

Perform additional duties as requested, such as requesting fees for payment from Claims department, informing witnesses of scheduled court appearances, and maintaining electronic document management systems.
