Responsibilities

Maintain accurate records, files, and reports related to animal care, adoptions, rescues, fosters, and shelter operations; assist with processing and payment of invoices and compilation of employee timesheets, leave requests, and other records.

Answer inquiries from the public over the counter, by email, and telephone on laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to animal control and the animal shelter.

Assist with acceptance of animals into shelter, performing preliminary examination including weighing, vaccinating, microchip scanning, and entering information into database.

Assist with maintenance of records regarding animal veterinary care, behavior, and health; report concerns to supervisor.

Assist with development and coordination of the shelter’s volunteer program (recruitment, training, scheduling).

Monitor inventory of office supplies and request and restock needed supplies.

Assist and support efforts related to adoption of animals and release impounded animals to owners.

Collect fees and issue receipts for sale of dog licenses and spay/neuter certificates; dispatch Animal Control Officers as needed.

Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED (preferred).

Previous clerical or administrative experience (preferred).

Experience in animal shelter operations (preferred).

Knowledge of laws and ordinances related to animal control, including rabies laws.

Knowledge of animal behavior, principles of care and feeding, and techniques used in the disposal of animals.

Record‑keeping skills and safe work practices.

Proficiency with computer equipment and modern office procedures.

Strong customer‑service skills and ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally.

Ability to research, prepare, and write technical reports.

Basic accounting and cash‑handling principles.

Physical ability to sit, walk, run, bend, stoop and lift weights in excess of 100 lb with assistance.

Ability to operate office phones, public‑safety radio, mobile data computer, and county vehicle as required (training provided).
