Responsibilities Job Summary Perform complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues. Identify microorganisms, analyze chemical content, and cross match blood for transfusions. The results support diagnosis, treatment, and disease prevention.
Essential Functions
Perform laboratory tests accurately in accordance with policies, ensuring timely results. Document all procedures and follow up on unusual or critical findings. Prepare specimens and understand factors affecting test accuracy.
Operate laboratory instrumentation, perform maintenance, calibrations, quality control, and troubleshoot issues. Refer complex cases to supervisors or specialists.
Maintain ongoing education and competency as per policies and certification standards.
Ensure compliance with hospital, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Proficient in hospital, laboratory, and office computer systems.
Assist, train, and orient new staff and students as needed. Support regulatory preparations and manage supplies efficiently.
Review laboratory and hospital policies regularly. Perform additional duties including phlebotomy as assigned.
Education
Associate's Degree in chemical, physical, or biological sciences, or equivalent training. For detailed requirements, refer to 42CFR93.1489(b).
Experience
Preferred: 1 year hospital laboratory experience as MLT.
Preferred: 1 year experience in Float Pool Network.
Preferred: 6 months MLT experience.
Licenses and Certifications
Preferred: Medical Lab Technician Certification.
