ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENT at NCH

General Surgery, Medical Surgical Telemetry Department is a 36 bed unit at our Downtown Baker campus that concentrates on post‑op abdominal, urological, and vascular surgeries as well as patients suffering from diabetes, infectious processes, and secondary cardiac and neurological conditions. JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Technician provides direct patient care under the direction of a nurse and performs other tasks necessary for unit operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrates the ability to perform, assist, reinforce, and deliver patient care. Manages a multiple patient care assignment based on unit acuity and staffing levels. Receives report from primary care partner and completes assignments in a timely and organized manner. Instructs and/or reinforces appropriate patient care activities under direction of licensed professional. Responds timely to all patient requests and communicates to the appropriate caregiver when necessary. Recognizes and performs emergency measures including CPR when indicated. Maintains annual competency with patient‑specific procedures. Enters timely and accurate documentation into the electronic medical record. Reports pertinent patient changes and/or clinical findings to primary care partner. Collects, labels, and delivers urine, blood, sputum, and stool specimens to the lab utilizing Universal Precautions. Provides adjunct care by administering enemas, surgical preps, ice packs, and heat treatments. Provides post‑mortem care. Assists in repositioning immobile patients with medical equipment. Monitors food and water intake and output. Assists with the application of simple dressings using aseptic technique. Accurately performs glucometer finger stick and POCT with quality control. Assists clinicians or public safety with restraints for violent/combative patients when applicable. Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as needed. Acts as a patient sitter when one‑to‑one observation is required. Acts as a telemetry monitor technician when required for patient care.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of High School diploma or GED required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Must satisfy one of the following:

CNA with current State of Florida licensure. RN student who has completed nursing fundamentals or caring scholar course and is actively enrolled in an RN program, providing transcripts every semester. Graduate of an RN program pending authorization (receipt of letter) to test for NCLEX (up to four months) or not passed first NCLEX and awaiting second test (four months to obtain RN license). EMT with current valid Florida licensure and work experience required.

Basic computer knowledge: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, input data.
