Overview

CERTIFIED SURGICAL TECH - PRN Maintain sterile field in operating room, ensuring proper aseptic techniques to prevent contamination and infection. Serve as primary scrub person for operative procedures and assist in circulating to contribute to peri-operative care of the surgical patient. Assist the surgical team by passing instruments, sutures and sponges during surgery. Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff. Responsibilities

Assist in operating room setup in accordance with surgeon preference card and organize sterile table with surgical instruments and equipment, sterile linens and solutions. Keep the card current to any changes. Check, adjust and operate equipment such as sterilizers, lights, suction machines, electrosurgical units and diagnostic equipment and automatic endoscope reprocess Maintain supply of fluids such as plasma, saline, blood and glucose for use during operation and be competent to handle and identify medication Prepare patient for surgery by washing, shaving and disinfecting incision sites. Transport and position patient on table and cover with sterile surgical drapes. Scrub up and wear sterile operating room attire to work within sterile field around the patient and handle sterilized instruments, equipment and supplies used in procedures. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon, pass instruments and provide sterile items in an efficient manner. Prepare and dispense supplies, instruments, disposable and reusable equipment, dressings and treatment trays. Report significant changes to the OR supervisor/ Assist with preparation, care and disposal of specimens taken for lab analysis, hold retractors, cut sutures and apply dressings as directed. Properly handle or dispose of contaminated instruments, equipment and sharps. Assist physicians performing procedures within the Endo room by anticipating and providing items in an efficient manner. Function well under stressful conditions in the operating room environment, including patients, family, physicians, other departments and workload. Report or update nurses or manager on patient care issues or problems to correct or monitor. Exhibit emotional maturity and stability needed for the OR environment. Demonstrate knowledge of operative procedures including draping and instrumentation and selection of suture material appropriate for tissue and procedure. Clean and restock the operating room after performing inventory. Perform all cleaning duties as outlined in the housekeeping log book. Keep the Housekeeping log current by initialing and dating each task. Be vigilant in maintaining a clean and safe environment. Minimum Qualifications

Education:

CST and BLS required. Experience:

3 years experience as CST Shift
