Job Description Chelmsford Public Schools is currently seeking applicants for the position of Substitute Nurse.
General Description: The Substitute Nurse will provide first aid to students and staff, including administering medications, performing ordered treatments, caring for illness and documenting in accordance with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts laws and the policies and procedures of the School District.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assess student’s daily visits, evaluate health status and provide care according to Chelmsford Public Schools Standing orders.
Administer first-aid and emergency care.
Ensure confidentiality and protect privacy.
Dispense medications according to standard nursing practice to students at school with proper documentation of prescriber authorization and parental request.
Collaborate with teachers, and/or parents regarding students identified for exclusion due to medical reasons.
Communicate with school personnel in identifying and meeting social, emotional, and physical needs of school children in English.
Document health care in electronic student data management system.
Assist in maintaining a healthy, safe, learning environment by promoting Universal Precautions.
Qualifications
Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Valid and current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED from a recognized provider (e.g., American Heart Association).
Nursing experience in community or child health. Experience in pediatrics preferred.
Understanding of child growth and development.
Ability to think critically and react decisively in emergency situations.
Demonstrated ability to be an effective communicator with students, staff members, and parents and to maintain confidentiality.
Abilities and Skills
Understands governmental regulations, Standards of Nursing Practice & Universal Precautions.
Familiarity with various insulin pumps and epipen administration.
Must be able to multitask, triage and stay organized.
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, kneel and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Position Type Part-time
Salary $200 to $200 Per Day
