Job Summary The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine at The Medical University of South Carolina is recruiting a physician‑scientist in basic, translational, or clinical research relating to pulmonary and critical care diseases. The successful candidate will actively contribute to our expanding research portfolio and engage in our clinical mission.

Key Responsibilities

Lead an independent research program with high likelihood of sustained extramural funding.

Contribute to research projects in interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, cystic fibrosis, critical care, and other pulmonary areas.

Collaborate with Pulmonary faculty and other MUSC departments.

Participate in clinical trials using the division’s robust clinical trials unit.

Maintain valid driver’s license, perform computer literacy tasks, and work rotating shifts and overtime as required.

Qualifications

MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent. PhD only may be considered in special circumstances.

Board certified or board eligible in Pulmonary.

Demonstrated ability or future potential to lead an independent research program.

Experience in basic, translational, or clinical research in pulmonary/critical care diseases.

Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Ability to lower objects, up to 75 lbs., from height of 36 inches to floor level, unassisted. (Frequent)

Ability to lift and carry patients weighing up to 300 lbs., assisted. (Frequent)

Ability to push/pull objects, up to 200 lbs., unassisted. (Frequent)

Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected. (Continuous)

Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand. (Continuous)

Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance. (Continuous)

Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous)

Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous)

Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous)

Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous)

Ability to hear and understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet. (Continuous)

Must be able to maintain bi‑lateral hand movement skills. (Continuous)

Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous)

Ability to be qualified physically (by medical personnel) for respirator use, initially and annually. (Continuous)
