Psychological Counselor
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and team‑oriented Psychological Counselor to provide psychological and developmental services for Eastern Washington University students, and consultation services and referrals for faculty and staff. The role reports to the Clinical Supervisor for Counseling and Wellness Services and is guided by the university’s commitment to a diverse workforce.
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work from a regionally accredited institution.
Knowledge of counseling theory, treatment models, diagnosis, psychotropic medication, and cultural implications of service delivery.
Advanced clinical counseling skills, case conceptualization, risk assessment, and clinical writing.
Independent license in Washington State (LP, LMHC, LICSW, LMFT) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) with full licensure expected within 3 years of hire.
A minimum of one‑year supervised practicum or internship experience.
Experience providing individual and group counseling and outreach services.
Ability to apply a responsive, flexible approach supporting universal access for students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Job Duties
Provide culturally informed, time‑limited individual and group counseling for students experiencing psychological, social, academic, or other difficulties.
Assess student psychological and behavioral problems using psychodiagnostic instruments when appropriate.
Provide crisis intervention services to the university community, including after‑hours support as needed.
Participate in the training and supervision of graduate students and/or pre‑doctoral interns.
Provide consultative services to individuals and groups associated with the university.
Prepare and deliver educational and preventive workshops/programs for a university population.
Participate constructively in departmental staff meetings, retreats, and Student Affairs activities.
Maintain effective relationships with colleagues and internal/external constituencies.
Fulfill licensing requirements in Washington State, including continuing education.
Subscribe to and practice under ACA or ACSWA Ethical Standards, Washington state law, and university policies.
Take an active role in managing and developing a program area within Counseling and Wellness Services.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Clinical Supervisor.
Distinguishing Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and coordinate services and initiatives in a student concern area, in collaboration with the Director and Clinical Supervisor.
Engage in ongoing consultation and collaboration with center staff, campus, and community partners to develop programs.
Complete formal and informal assessment of campus needs in the chosen area.
Facilitate outreach programming and assess program effectiveness.
Provide leadership on campus committees focused on the area of expertise.
Percent of Time 100 %
Conditions of Employment The position requires a background check, compliance with EWU Immunization Policy, and authorization to work in the United States. The university follows the Public School Employees’ of Washington Collective Bargaining Agreement. Additional training via Canvas will be required.
Salary Information Base salary: $69,947 – $75,000, depending on education, experience, and skills.
