The community you’ll be caring for: The Role
Responsible for indirect pre-/intra operative patient care and assist in the provision of quality individualized care to the patient undergoing operative and/or an invasive procedure. Based on the needs of the department and on training, competence, and skill, the CSFA will perform in the role of first assistant, and/or surgical technologist, including, but not limited to, peer education, advocacy, efficient provision of resources, enforcement of standards and integration and coordination of care across the surgical setting. Responsibilities
Certified Surgical First Assistant practicing in surgery are functioning in an expanded perioperative role. Preoperative patient management in collaboration with other health care providers, reviews daily assignments and ascertains type of surgeon specific preferences. Intraoperative performance of surgical first assistant technique as in: Using instruments and medical devices, Providing surgical site exposure, Handling and/or cutting tissue, Providing hemostasis by means of clamping vessels, coagulating, and ligating vessels, Suturing, and closure of surgical sites (i.e. closure of muscle, fascia, subcutaneous, and skin). Responding to emergency situations. Participates in staff and student development. Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed: High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technology program, or Military Trained Surgical Assistant, or Graduate of Foreign Medical School (GFMS). Completion of First Assist program or Military Trained Surgical Assistant. Certification as Surgical First Assistant as a CSFA (Certified Surgical First Assist) or CSA (Certified Surgical Assistant). 5 Years’ experience as Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) or Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) in a multi-disciplined OR in an acute care hospital setting preferred.
