Flexible Scheduling: Location pairings are Froedtert Hospital and Froedtert Bluemound Rehab Hospital, or Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital and Froedtert West Bend Hospital
Job Summary: Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nurse Extern II assists with the assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluation of nursing care for an identified group of patients. Works under the Nurse Manager's license of the assigned unit and is paired with RNs during their shift. The Nurse Extern II is a nursing student, a graduate awaiting his/her temporary permit from Wisconsin or awaiting to retake the NCLEX exam. Other duties may be assigned.
Experience Requirements: Minimum of either: A) two acute care medical-surgical clinical rotations, or B) one medical-surgical clinical rotation and one clinical rotation relevant to the clinical area. At least one rotation must include medication administration. Clinicals should have provided theory, knowledge, and experience in patient care, procedures, assessments, and documentation.
Educational Requirements: Either: 1) enrolled in the last year of an accredited Nursing program; 2) a graduate awaiting a temporary license, planning to take the exam within 60 days; 3) awaiting to retake the NCLEX. If unable to pass NCLEX, position can be retained for up to 6 months post-graduation.
Skills and Abilities: Ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic, follow directions, and interact courteously with patients, visitors, and staff. Capable of basic patient care tasks, physical assessments, and patient handling.
Licensure: Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) preferred, except in CHD where it is required. In CHD, documentation from an accredited school indicating successful basic nursing course completion is acceptable. BLS or equivalent from AHA required within 90 days of hire.
