Responsibilities
Responsible for efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process and following SOPs.
Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set‑up, monitoring and disconnect.
Perform venipuncture to begin pheresis process in compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines.
Evaluate vein performance of donors to identify problems; make corrections to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety. Ensure positive donor experience.
Educate new donors on therapeutic products from donated plasma. Explain screening process, health screens, appointment system, fees, center policies, nutrition, and other relevant information. Answer donor questions timely, accurately, professionally.
Maintain alertness to reactions by donors; assist or notify appropriate staff.
Use PDA to record incidents during pheresis process: machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, adverse events.
Perform calibrations and verify maintenance according to SOPs. Resolve equipment alarms or donor issues.
Troubleshoot equipment failures. Create incident documentation, remove and/or replace equipment.
Monitor donor flow on floor to assure continuous turnover; alert Group Leader of any flow issues.
Collect arm or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
Ensure accurate recording of donor data in electronic donor information management system per SOPs.
Understand policies and procedures associated with hyper‑immune programs at the center, if applicable.
Maintain clean efficient work environment, keep operating supplies and forms available. Follow HSE and OSHA policies and procedures. Promote safety in all actions.
Maintain confidentiality of personnel, donor, and center information.
May be cross‑trained in other areas to meet business needs.
Bilingual skills may be required, at discretion of organization.
Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum 12 months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
For Centers located in CA the following experience is also required:
Persons performing automated plasmapheresis procedures must be at a minimum state certified as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, OR
Current Registered Nurse by the State of California.
