Marketing Statement Elmhurst Hospital Center (EHC) is the major tertiary care provider in the borough of Queens. The hospital is comprised of 545 beds and is a Level I Trauma Center, an Emergency Heart Care Station and a 911 Receiving Hospital. Duties & Responsibilities Purpose of Position Under supervision, performs a variety of ultrasound procedures to assist in the medical diagnosis and assessment of patients. Acts in compliance with NYC Health + Hospitals, health care setting, and other appropriate regulatory requirements and patient safety standards.

Under general supervision, performs ultrasound examinations at an advanced level, including special procedures to assist medical staff in the diagnosis and assessment of patients.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Schedules patients for ultrasound examinations.

Receives patients and explains and educates patients on ultrasound procedure; answers all related questions and responds to patient’s needs or concerns, as required.

Obtains pertinent clinical data prior to ultrasound examinations; consults with Physician regarding patient history and to determine appropriate ultrasound exam.

Prepares patient for ultrasound examination, by safely positioning patient for ultrasound scans and adjusting imaging equipment; performs the procedure and communicates results of diagnostic examination to the Physician.

Assists in the selection of appropriate software and imaging parameters, when positioning and adjusting equipment to encompass the area to be studied and produce optimal diagnostic imaging quality; returns equipment to its original location after each procedure.

Develops images, in accordance with appropriate imaging techniques; checks and is responsible for the quality of scans.

Monitors patients and imaging equipment during procedure and reports changes to appropriate health care professionals.

Maintains imaging supplies and equipment and performs diagnostic testing and general maintenance on equipment, when needed.

Prepares ultrasound area, equipment, materials and supplies for patients, as needed.

Effectively uses electronic medical records (EMR) to document patient encounters and access pertinent patient data and imaging results; accurately maintains all other required records.

Participates in departmental meetings, internal/external quality assurance/performance improvement (QA/PI) activities and training, as required.

In addition to performing duties of Assignment Level I, as described above, also performs the following:

Maintains regular contact with physicians and other health care personnel by providing information regarding the nature, scheduling, or results of procedures performed within the Ultrasound Department.

Assists in the conduct of specialized tests and studies.

Assists in training programs in ultrasonography and instructs other appropriate technical personnel on technical aspects of their routine use.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of a Sonography or Ultrasound training program from an accredited school.
