Commonwealth of VA Careers
Postdoctoral Research Associate, Dermatology
Commonwealth of VA Careers, Charlottesville, Virginia, United States, 22904
Overview
The Department of Dermatology at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine invites applications for a federally funded postdoctoral research associate position. This role will focus on studying Cancer Biology and Stem Cell Biology in the laboratory of Dr. Lu Le, Professor and Chair of the Department of Dermatology. Dr. Le's lab investigates how genetic and microenvironmental factors interplay to regulate tumorigenesis. Our research focuses on identification of the cell of origin and elucidating the role of tumor microenvironment in cancer development. We dissect the cellular and molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis from a developmental perspective using Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) as a model. While working on neurofibromatosis, our research group identified the identity of follicular epithelial cells that directly give rise to hair and explored mechanisms that cause hair to turn gray, leading to a focus on potential treatments for balding and hair graying associated with aging. Our laboratory offers a rich experimental environment that encompasses both basic and translational research.
