Position Overview
Reports to the Practice Manager. The Perinatal Sonographer utilizes high–frequency sound waves along with color and spectral Doppler ultrasound to assist in the assessment of fetal anatomy, fetal growth, and fetal well‑being. Performs ultrasound scans and procedures requiring independent judgment and a high degree of precision and skill in the application of ultrasound equipment. Follows protocols and procedures as directed by the Medical Director and/or Perinatal Sonographer Lead, ensures quality patient care is provided, and collaborates with physicians for research functions.

Key Responsibilities
Perform ultrasound scans including OB/GYN, abdominal, Doppler, and vascular scans using high‑frequency equipment according to prescribed protocols.
Obtain pertinent clinical history, communicate with referring physicians and other health‑care personnel, and report findings as required.
Explain procedures to patients and/or families, practice sterile and isolation techniques, and assess patient condition, reporting to physician or nurse as needed or performing CPR and other emergency procedures.
Select appropriate transducers, gels, and oils to achieve the best resolution and minimize allergic reactions.
Use digital storage systems and maintain accurate documentation of ultrasound exams for physician interpretation.
Assist physicians with amniocentesis procedures, with and without the use of a needle guide.
Perform Umbilical, Middle Cerebral Artery, and Ductus Venosus Doppler assessments and demonstrate common markers of fetal aneuploidy.
Assist in in‑office procedures where ultrasound is essential, and use specialized instruments and probes for accurate measurements, including multiple gestation.
Maintain inventory and condition of ultrasound supplies and equipment, prepare reports, and keep records of services rendered.
Participate in student and physician education, and develop and maintain positive relationships with physicians and nurses.
Attend department meetings, complete mandatory education, annual competencies, and compliance requirements, and comply with all regulatory agencies and organizational policies.
Education & Experience
Graduation from a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program that meets ARDMS requirements with an active OB/GYN RDMS certification, FMF 1st Trimester Screening certification, and Clear certification.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Two to three years of advanced ultrasound technologist experience, preferably with obstetric/high‑risk patients.
Knowledge & Skills
Proficiency in amniocentesis, amnioreduction, and amnio dye study procedures.
Knowledge and demonstration of common fetal aneuploidy markers.
Capability to perform Umbilical, Middle Cerebral Artery, and Ductus Venosus Doppler assessment.
Competence in diagnostic ultrasound procedures per practice protocol.
Strong communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Understanding of obstetric ultrasound procedures, coding, and clinical competencies.
Basic computer skills for ultrasound reporting software, image storage, and EMR.
Manual dexterity for adjusting machine controls and accessories.
Willingness to participate in on‑call weekend rotations as required.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
Walk, stand, and push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 lb; lift patients up to 35 lb unassisted, require assistance for heavier loads, provide CPR as needed.
Stand or sit for prolonged periods; perform tasks requiring endurance and stamina.
