The incumbent is at the full performance level as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT). Performs routine to moderately complex radiographic exams using diagnostic x-ray equipment such as fluoroscopic units, direct digital units, C-arms, and portable machines. The position level GS 8 functions proficiently at a level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail in the Cardiac Cath Lab (CCL). Qualifications

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology - Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable. Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). Duties

Assists interventionalist during fluoroscopic examinations. Employs knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and cross-sectional anatomy to ensure quality and accuracy of the procedure. Assist the interventional provider in fluoroscopic examinations to include functions of scrub, circulate, and monitor procedures. The DRT will discuss any case that deviates from normal protocol with the interventional provider. Prepares and administers contrast materials under the direction of the Interventional provider. Responsible to the interventional provider for the quality and quantity of acceptability of radiographs while minimizing patient dosage and reducing costs. Practices radiation safety to reduce exposure to patient, staff, and self. Documents patients in the XPER/WITT system and/or the electronic health record. Knowledge of Joint Commission and regulatory requirements. Responsible for cleanliness and stocking adequate levels of supplies in assigned areas. Monitors PAR levels and weekly checks expiration dates. Maintains a professional, cooperative, and able to work with other employees.
