The Nurse Practitioner specializes in the ambulatory care of inmate patients while maintaining the standard of professional nursing. Nurse Practitioners work with a variety of healthcare professionals and security officers in a correctional environment to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. The correctional setting involves providing care to inmate patients to promote and improve their overall health using the nursing process in triage, professional training, and various resources in accordance with regulatory agencies and established guidelines. The inmate patient population often has not had consistent access to healthcare prior to incarceration, offering an opportunity to address a range of health concerns from minor to major and atypical conditions. Responsibilities
Provides a positive and professional representation of CFG Health Systems, LLC. Promotes a culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention. Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of job role or practice. Adheres to infection control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations. Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities. Completes required orientation as directed by facility. Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment. Follows facility and CFG Health Systems Occurrence Protocol. Upholds HIPAA and PREA regulations. Punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts. Maintains security clearance for the assigned facility. Job Responsibilities
Performs and documents medical evaluations on inmate patients of the assigned correctional facility consistent with NCCHC standards of care, NJ 10-A, ACA, and PBNDS as appropriate. Assesses patients’ mental and physical status based on presenting symptoms and complaints. Constructs treatment plans addressing patient problems, involving patients in development, and including relapse prevention risk management strategies. Writes prescriptions for medications as allowed by state regulations and under the CFG formulary guidelines. Monitors patients’ medications. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to develop, implement, or evaluate treatment plans. Documents patients’ medical histories, physical assessment results, discharge summaries, and transfer orders. Maintains effective working relationships with health care professionals and others. Qualifications
Minimum Education
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Current, unrestricted license to practice as Registered Nurse in the state the facility is located (maintain a current copy of license on file at the facility at all times). Certified to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the state in which the facility is located. Current DEA, CDS, and DEA-X license. Minimum Work Experience
At least two (2) years of providing direct patient care as a Nurse Practitioner, preferred. Required Skills
Excellent critical thinking and assessment skills. Ability to make decisions independently. Assertive, empathetic and able to provide care objectively. Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Basic computer skills. Ability to function independently and as part of a team. Ability to command the respect and confidence of inmates and staff; philosophically committed to the objectives of the facility. Maintains an active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Functional and Physical Demands
Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests. May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays. On-call duty may be required (available to work on short notice) as per site requirement. Additional Details
