School Based Behavioral Health Clinician – John F Kennedy Middle School, Enfield Moses/Weitzman Health System

Job Description The Behavioral Health Clinician is an independent provider who supports students and their families as a CHC employee in a school‑based clinic. The clinician conducts diagnostic psychosocial evaluations, develops care plans, offers individual, family, or group therapy as appropriate, and collaborates with psychiatric and/or medical providers. The clinician documents all clinical interventions in accordance with CHC policy, Joint Commission standards, and state regulatory expectations. This position is primarily focused on direct client care but may include supervision of unlicensed staff and/or students.

Role And Responsibilities

Complete initial behavioral health evaluations and provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy.

Run at least five (5) groups per week of direct clinical work.

Work as part of an interdisciplinary, interprofessional team, accepting warm hand‑offs from primary care providers and other health team members, and identify patients potentially needing behavioral health services via the BH clinical dashboard.

Consult with other providers regarding treatment plans and progress.

Coordinate with psychiatric consultants for diagnostic and consultative needs; refer as necessary for medication management.

Attend clinical team meetings and component meetings as assigned.

Meet productivity standards with a focus on quality clinical care.

Encourage clients to express feelings and discuss life events, helping them develop insight into themselves or relationships.

Perform crisis interventions with clients, assessing for safety concerns such as risk of homicide, suicide, and domestic violence.

Guide clients to develop skills or strategies for achieving identified goals.

Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge according to state regulatory and Joint Commission standards.

Evaluate effectiveness of ongoing treatment on clients’ progress toward objectives.

Modify treatment activities or approaches as needed.

Discuss individual patients’ plans for life after therapy.

Work with and support family members in understanding and supporting clients.

Maintain awareness of new developments in the field.

Gather information about community mental health resources to integrate with therapy.

Licensed clinicians may supervise student interns or other licensure‑seeking staff.

Administrative Responsibilities

Complete all documentation required by state regulations, Joint Commission standards, and CHC Behavioral Health Department laws in a timely manner.

Lock all treatment notes no later than the next business day.

Complete reports to outside agencies such as DCF, Family Relations, probation, and others when required, with appropriate client releases.

Participate as a member of agencywide committees as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration: LCSW, LMFT, LPC, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist in CT, preferred; or license‑eligible with an associate license (MLSW, PC‑A, MFT‑A) with ability to obtain full clinical licensure within 3 years of hire.

Minimum two years of outpatient experience, including experience with children and/or adults.

Theoretical orientation consistent with brief, problem‑focused therapy.

Reliable transportation to external consults, meetings, and home visits.

Written and oral bilingual fluency in a language spoken by the patient population (e.g., English/Spanish) preferred.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

Combination of sustained periods of sitting at a keyboard, walking, and stair climbing.

Minimal lifting and carrying.

Communication Skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

Must interface with patients, family members, community agencies, and other providers within the organization.

Confidentiality

Behavioral health information is kept in strict confidence; confidentiality of patient and business information is a requirement.

Full access to patient medical records and encounter data.

Client data entry and medical system information must be handled confidentially.
