Vacancy: The Valley View Public School District is seeking an individual to fill a full-time Athletic Trainer position for the 2025/2026 school year.
JOB SUMMARY Reports to the Principal and Assistant Principal. Performs functions including care, treatment and prevention of athletic injuries under the supervision of the team doctor or referring physician. Responsible for all students/athletes involved in the interscholastic athletic program and for working with the coaches to ensure that all students/athletes are provided or referred for the proper medical care and treatment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Administer first aid when necessary and/or arrange for medical care.
Work closely with all coaches regarding conditioning, first aid, reconditioning after injuries, and ensuring the well‑being of all athletes in the program.
Apply protective or injury‑preventive devices such as strapping, bandaging, or braces.
Counsel and advise athletes and coaches on conditioning and training matters, such as diet, rest, and rehabilitation.
Advise coaches when an athlete may return to activity and to what level.
Cooperate with the physician to carry out treatment instructions for athletic injuries, reconditioning procedures, operation of therapeutic devices, fitting braces, guards, and referrals to the physician.
Cooperate with the school nurse regarding accident report filing.
Supervise the training room, establishing rules, regulations, and procedures, and keeping the room orderly and sanitary.
Maintain medical kits for each in‑season team, replenishing items as needed.
Attend practice sessions and games, prioritizing home contests unless instructed otherwise by the athletic director.
Attend all home athletic contests, varsity football games, tournaments, and contests at the discretion of the Director of Athletics when required.
Supervise and, when necessary, instruct student trainers and staff under his/her jurisdiction.
Maintain accident reports and injury records.
Keep informed of the latest equipment and information in sports medicine and maintain professional certification status.
Participate in continuous study and research; attend relevant conferences and workshops to enhance professional competence in accordance with district guidelines and budget allocations.
Advise parents regarding athlete care and injuries.
Serve as a liaison with the school nurse.
Interpret the athletic training program to administration and staff.
Facilitate effective communication about the athletic training program among students, staff, and the community.
Perform other tasks as assigned by the Assistant Principal.
EDUCATION & LICENSURE
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with intensive coursework in athletic training.
Valid Athletic Trainer Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association (preferred).
Current State of Illinois Athletic Trainer License.
First Aid and CPR Certification.
At least two years of successful experience as an athletic trainer or in a similar capacity.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and decision‑making skills.
Serve as a role model for all students, creating an environment conducive to enhanced and engaging learning opportunities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY Work is performed in an environment with minimal temperature, noise, and hazards. Occasional lifting, pulling, or pushing may be required. Frequent walking and standing are necessary.
PAY SCALE AND BENEFIT DISCLOSURE Salary is in accordance with the Certified Salary Schedule at BA +10 plus eight percent (8%).
