High school or equivalent and at least two (2) years of experience in hospital or outpatient environment. Completion of a cardiovascular training program. Certified as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Registry in Vascular Sonography (RVT or RVS) by ARDMS or CCI. Job Summary
Under limited supervision, provides advanced technical skills in the performance of non-invasive tests used in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular and cardiac disease. Responsibilities include performing a full range of non-invasive vascular and cardiac tests and related duties in patient care. Essential Job Functions
Operates ultrasound equipment for data acquisition and documentation of images; performs quality control measures to ensure optimal quality images. Acquires, records, analyzes and presents patient examinations to include non-invasive cardiac and vascular testing, transesophageal procedures, and utilization of contrast for cardiac echo as required by laboratory protocol and physician order. Determines the most appropriate testing techniques for a patient to obtain the information desired by the attending physician. Prepares a summary of technical findings for interpretation by the physician. Applies the profession’s code of ethics and maintains a high standard of medical ethics. Performs diagnostic testing and care of patients according to age as defined below; respects privacy and confidentiality; facilitates maintenance of body image; recognizes abuse/neglect potential; takes appropriate fall precautions; recognizes potential adverse drug reactions and interactions; takes measures to prevent skin breakdown; makes provisions for thermoregulation. Follows guidelines set by laboratory directors for examination of the patient; informs the attending physician of findings in difficult or unusual cases before the patient leaves the area. Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity. Notifies appropriate personnel of the need for specific laboratory supplies; maintains proper record keeping, data storage and retrieval for clinical purposes; collects and maintains statistical data as requested by the Technical Director; assists in implementation of total quality management for the Echocardiography/Vascular Laboratory; practices safety measures in Environment of Care; cares for and maintains echocardiography and vascular laboratory equipment; seeks ongoing knowledge of cardiovascular disease and procedures. Interacts with the Vascular and Echocardiography reading physicians; maintains professional competency through participation in departmental and related training; communicates professionally with internal and external customers; adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
