Clinical Lab Scientist I St. Mary’s Hospital - Kankakee

Responsibilities

Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex CLIA–authorized tests as listed in CFR 493.1425 and 493.1495.

Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.

Follow quality control policies and document corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications.

Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and notify supervisor, director, or medical director.

Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment, using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and additional disciplines as introduced.

Perform and document instrument and equipment maintenance – daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed.

Review the accuracy of patient results prior to release or reporting.

Recognize age‑specific differences in expected results for newborn to geriatric patients.

Ensure proficiency testing samples are handled like patient samples and submit results to appropriate agencies.

Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture across age groups from newborn to geriatric patients as required.

Assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.

Adhere to department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.

Serve as Lead Tech in the absence of a supervisor, assuming responsibility for the section or department during the shift.

May have responsibilities related to LIS and/or POCT.

Perform additional tasks as assigned by the department manager/director.

Qualifications

ASCP certification, or equivalent, preferred.

One year of hospital laboratory work experience preferred.

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological Sciences, Health Sciences, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution; or meet CLIA (42 CFR 493.1423) educational requirements.

Current and valid state laboratory license if required for the state where the laboratory is located.

Benefits and Compensation Competitive compensation with an estimated range of $26.00 to $37.66 per hour, plus a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, 401(k) retirement plan, medical, dental, vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, and additional voluntary benefits.
